In an exciting finish the Cincinnati Reds pulled out a win over the Atlanta
Braves by a score of 5 to 4 at Riverfront Stadium.
Cincinnati won the game with a run in the 9th inning. Terry Crowley stroked a
base-hit. Elias Sosa then fired a sharp breaking ball that appeared to
cross-up the catcher. In any event, it got by him and was ruled a passed
ball. After an out was recorded, Sosa came up and he uncorked a pitch that
was ruled a passed ball. One out later, Joe Morgan stepped in and he was
walked intentionally. Tony Perez came to the plate and reached on an error
giving Cincinnati the win much to the delight of the home town crowd.
Cincinnati rapped out 9 hits for the afternoon.
Clay Carroll(12-6) went 2 and 2/3 innings allowing 3 runs for the win.
Sosa(3-9) was the losing pitcher in relief. He allowed 4 hits and 2 walks in
2 and 2/3 innings.
