Third baseman Pete Rose had 2 base hits as the strong Cincinnati Reds
outscored the San Francisco Giants 4 to 2.
Cincinnati erupted with the game winning runs in the 8th inning with 3 runs on
3 hits. After two outs Bill Plummer was the sparkplug when he delivered a
base-hit. Ken Griffey stepped into the batter's box and he reached on an
error. Rose then delivered a single to load the bases. Cesar Geronimo
followed and he doubled emptying the bases. Cincinnati had a total of 8 hits
for the game.
The win was credited to Jack Billingham(12-8) who went 8 innings allowing 2
runs. Billingham got relief help from Will McEnaney who gained credit for his
11th save. Ed Halicki(9-8) was the loser. Although losing the contest, he
whiffed 11 batters in 7 and 2/3 innings.
