WEB GEMS- Top 9th: Mike Sadek blocked the plate, saving a run!
The powerful Cincinnati Reds scored 4 runs in the 13th inning and toppled the
San Francisco Giants in 13 innings by a 8 to 4 score at Candlestick
Park.
The score was knotted at 4 after nine innings. Cincinnati came out on top in
the 13th inning. The key at-bat was by George Foster who deflated the mood
of the partisan fans when he emptied the bases with a Grand Slam homerun (his
18th of the season). Cincinnati had 13 hits for the night while San
Francisco had 8.
The victory was credited to Pedro Borbon(6-3) who went 2 innings, allowing no
runs. Randy Moffitt(2-4) took the loss in relief. He couldn't find the
strike zone and allowed 5 walks in 2 and 1/3 innings.
The Cincinnati ballclub's record now stands at a division leading 95-52. San
Francisco has a record of 75-72 after the loss.
