Gary Nolan went 8 strong innings and Cesar Geronimo had 4 hits at Riverfront
Stadium as the Cincinnati Reds won in dramatic fashion coming back to beat
the pathetic Atlanta Braves by the count of 7 to 6.
Cincinnati scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 9th inning with 3
runs utilizing 3 base hits. Johnny Bench led off and he reached on an error.
George Foster stepped into the batter's box and he stroked a single.
Darrell Chaney got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on
strikes. Geronimo followed and he slapped a single plating a run. Merv
Rettenmund stepped into the box and drew a walk to load the bases. Pete Rose
kept things alive and doubled resulting in an exciting win for Cincinnati and
a raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans. The game was a wild
affair with the lead changing hands 5 times.
Rawley Eastwick(4-4) allowed no runs in 1 inning, and picked up the victory.
Max Leon(2-7) ended up with the loss in relief. He allowed 3 runs and 2 hits
in 1/3 of an inning.
